Meet a Master: Lecture & Reception
Peter Sís is a Czech-born American illustrator and writer of children's books. As a cartoonist his editorial illustrations have appeared in Time, Newsweek, Esquire, and Atlantic Monthly. Among his many accolades he was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen medal in 2012, the highest recognition available to a writer or illustrator of children's books for his "lasting contribution" as a children's illustrator. Peter is also an award winning author and animator/filmmaker, internationally and for PBS & Nickelodeon. His artwork appears in mural form for permanent public installations nationally and internationally, including in the 86th Street subway station in NYC where his mosaic “Happy City”depicts four large eyes to represent the ingredients of the community and the vibrancy that is New York. Most recently, his “ azuelo mosaic” of Thirty Birds was installed in Lisbon/Portugal on their anniversary of declaration of human rights.
Illustration Institute is thrilled to host Peter for a lecture about his richly diverse career followed by a reception with the community. Illustration Institute is grateful to islander Linda Holtslander, a former librarian and friend of Peter’s, for introducing us! We continue to be grateful to collaborate with the TEIA, thank you for your lovely venue.
