Burnham-based artist and book author/illustrator Lucky Platt’s debut picture book, Imagine a Wolf, was a 2022 Maine Literary Awards Finalist in Children’s, a 2022 Ezra Jack Keats Award Finalist in New Writers, a 2021 New England Book Award Finalist, and has been translated into Korean and Russian. Her stories explore themes of resilience, healing, positive self expression and inclusion. She frequently conducts workshops on writing and creating with all ages. In collaboration with Illustration Institute, she created the Unity Public Library’s Children’s Storyteller Series bringing award-winning children’s book creators to western Waldo County for readings, book talks and art activities.
Lucky loves paper-crafted miniatures, especially as set pieces for stories! In this workshop designed especially for young artists, participants will work from a prompt/theme of 'summer outdoors' to create a world of tiny, beautifully constructed painted paper objects. Lucky will supply paper, kid-friendly cutting tools, craft paint, glue and brushes. Participants may want to bring some favorite summer toys, objects or ephemera to use as models for their sculptures.
